Explosion in Tel Aviv injures at least 40, kills at least 8

A Palestinian suicide bomber has caused an explosion at a restaurant in central Tel Aviv. According to police, eight people are reported dead and at least 40 were injured in the blast. Palestinian group Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for the attack. The suicide bombing was the first since Hamas took over the government of the Palestinian Authority less than three weeks ago.

Canada confirms fifth case of Mad Cow Disease

Canada's Food Inspection Agency has confirmed that a cow in British Columbia, Canada, tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy or Mad Cow Disease. The cow, the fifth case since May 2003, was found in Fraser Valley, a farming community near Vancouver, British Columbia. Canadian officials say that the animal did not make it into the human food chain. The United States does not believe that a ban on Canadian beef imports will come immediately.

US allegedly committed acts of violence in Iran using ex-members of MEK during past year

On Thursday, the Internet news publication Raw Story corroborated claims that the U.S. is involved in acts of violence committed in Iran. It claims that these are being carried out by retrained ex-members of the People's Mujahedin of Iran (MEK) rather than by traditional US soldiers. The MEK is an Iranian opposition group listed by the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Terrorist Organization but which describes itself as "secular" and "patriotic, Muslim and democratic".
