Detroit woman dies after child's 911 calls are neglected
The family of a Detroit woman plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Detroit. Sherill Turner died on February 20 from complications from an enlarged heart. Her five-year-old son, Robert, reportedly made two emergency calls to 911, but the calls were allegedly dismissed as prank calls. The Detroit police department is investigating.
Farmhouse raided as investigation into Ontario massacre continues
Ontario Provincial Police raided a farmhouse on Sunday, continuing an investigation into what is called Ontario's "biggest massacre". A couple of days earlier, eight bodies were found in or around vehicles near the village of Shedden, approximately 30 kilometres from London, Ontario. Police have closed off a 15 square kilometre area while they search for clues.
State Bank of India employee strike settled
A strike by the 200,000 employees of the State Bank of India over pension benefits ended Sunday with a settlement. Workers will return to work on Monday. The Mumbai-based bank is the largest commercial bank in India, with over 9,000 branches throughout the nation.
Voting begins in Italian election
Finally, Italians go to the polls today in Parliamentary elections. The election pits the center-left L’Unione coalition led by Romano Prodi against the center-right House of Freedoms coalition led by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
