Friday, April 19, 2024

At around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, a man lit himself on fire infront of a New York City courthouse where former US President Donald Trump was getting put on trial for alleged hush-money scandal involving an adult film star.

He is currently hospitalized and in critical condition.

Several lawn enforcement officers who were involved in the incident are also reported to have sustained minor injuries.

Jury selection was completed.

The man was 37 years old.

The incident occurred at Collect Pond Park.

The incident was recorded and broadcast on live TV.

The man burned for several minutes.

After he set himself ablaze, he crossed a police barrier, where he then collapsed.

Witnesses referred to the events as "horrifying".

He pulled pamplets out of his backpack and threw them in the air.

One of the pamplets refferred to "evil billionaires".

He doused himself with fluid from a canister and lit himself ablaze.

Civilians and law enforcement attempted to diffuse the fire with their coats before the fire was put out minutes later after the fire department brought a large fire extinguisher.

NYPD identified the man as Max Azzarello, 37, of St. Augustine, Florida.

Azzaerllo was a self-described investigative researcher.

The man had arrived in New York earlier in the week.

He had no criminal record in the state of New York.

According to police records, he had been arrested on four misdemeanor charges in August 2023 in Florida.

The man wrote "I have set myself on fire outside the Trump Trial." on his Substack page.

The cops said the man did not appear to be targeting the former president or anybody at the trial.

Officials said the man appeared to have acted alone.

The NYPD Bomb Squad performed a sweep of the area as a precaution.

No further devices were found.
