Large earthquake strikes the Solomon Islands

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 6.7 earthquake has been reported in the Solomon Islands.

The epicenter was located 73 kilometers (45 miles) west, southwest of Honiara, in the Solomon Islands. The depth was recorded at 1.8 km (1.1 miles).

The USGS says that damage could be light to moderate.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that no large or widespread tsunami is expected based on historical data.
