Homage to Chilean politician Jaime Guzmán nineteen years after his death

The Chilean President Sebastián Piñera and other center-right politicians attended last Thursday morning the Memorial to Jaime Guzmán to celebrate the 19th anniversary from the death of the founder of the Unión Demócrata Independiente (UDI) (Independent Democratic Union).

After the ceremony, a pilgrimage to the General Cemetery and a mass, place that in the past the ceremony was made completely in memoriam to the dead senator. In the monument, the President Piñera and Juan Antonio Coloma, UDI president, did some speeches, in which they emphasized the Guzmán politic figure and they emphasized it as the first remembrance from his death in a center-right government.

Jaime Guzmán was a constitutionalist lawyer, collaborator in the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, one of the redactor of the Chilean Politic Constitution of 1980, and founder of the UDI. Guzmán was killed in April 1, 1991 when he was going out the Western Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He was taken to the Militar Hospital of Santiago, but he died 3 hours later. He was killed by the Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez (Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front), and according to recent investigations, he was killed specifically by Ricardo Palma and Raúl Escobar, and his assassination was being planned since the eighties.
