Football: Asensio agrees to sign contract extension with Real Madrid

Today, Spanish forward Marco Asensio agreed to sign a contract extension with Spanish capital football club Real Madrid, the club announced via their official website. The new contract, scheduled to be signed tomorrow, would run until June 2023.

21-year-old Asensio joined Los Blancos from RCD Mallorca in 2014 for about 3.9 million and was loaned for a season to Barcelona-based club RCD Espanyol. Asensio has already scored four goals in LaLiga this season. In his tenure at Santiago Bernabeu, the Spanish international has won the UEFA Champions League as well as UEFA Super Cup with Madrid. Asensio scored the final goal in last season't UEFA Champions League final against Juventus FC.

Per the previous contract, Asensio was tied to Real Madrid until June 2020. Earlier, Frenchman Varane and his compatriot Karim Benzema, Brazilian defender Marcelo, and Spanish midfielder Isco and his compatriot Dani Carvajal, signed contract extensions with Madrid. Except for Benzema's, their contracts run until June 2022. Benzema's extension runs until June 2021.
