At Edinburgh Airport, in Scotland on Thursday, numerous planes were delayed on the ground and several others were required to stay in a holding pattern in the sky, after damage to the main runway at the airport was found by airport maintenance staff.

Debris was discovered around 9:20 a.m. BST from an unknown source, which caused the runway to be closed.

A spokeswoman for the British Airports Authority (BAA) at Edinburgh Airport said, "Following an inspection, departing and arriving flights were allowed to continue to use the runway as normal. The impact on the airport's operation has been minimal."

A report is expected to be released later detailing more information after further investigations have been carried out.
