Looks like Jean is following in Schwarzenegger's footsteps as an entertainer making a move into politics. Should they just stay out of it or is it a good thing that gets people involved and interested in politics?

Before Schwarzenegger was Ronald Reagan.

Some professions (such as law and public relations) seem to be over-represented in politics. So when people change careers to get into politics, I think it is good for democracy.

Surely that's because those professions are inextricably linked to politics, but rapper to head of state is quite a leap.

Uh oh! That's what I meant. Too many lawyers and political experts.

So, let's have more doctors, engineers, athletes, musicians and teachers and mechanics in elected office.

There's Sebastian Coe, too, who was an Olympic medalist in the 80s before becoming a Member of Parliament in the 90s.

A rapper as president? I'm sure he has a lot of support but as charitable as he may seem towards Haitians, I'm sure he knows very little about Haitian politics or how to run any government at all. If I was Haitian, I would much prefer someone with real experience.

Well Arny seems to have done a reasonable job of running California and you wouldn't have thought The Terminator would be the best candidate for that job!

He's doing OK, but he just isn't that great of a negotiator...

Being a celebrity should not restrict you from getting into politics. The real question should be: Is this person the best candidate [best chance of improving society]?
