YOURE THE SPINNER. FYI WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE ON MAINE SAYS IT IS LEAST RELIGIOUS. BUT OF COURSE YOULL SPIN THAT TOO.
American has been long overdo for equality in marriage. Denying them the rights to marry is like denying the right of different colors to marry (even though there's no such thing as a race). ~astarisborn94
Not really sure who the fellow that quote is attributed to is, but I'm thinking he hasn't spent that much time in Maine; as a resident of the state I can tell you that we have the same mix of liberal and conservative as any other state with a large rural population balanced by some urban centers. I got a pretty good chuckle out of that quote, to be honest, but still felt like putting it in perspective.
Frank Schubert is an opponent of gay marriage who is coming to prominence within the National Organization for Marriage. He's based in California. He's trying to spin the result. In reality, nobody, pro or against marriage equality, expected this result. One or two states, maybe, but all four states voting on marriage equality voting in support? Schubert is clinging for whatever spin he can to try and excuse an enormous loss for marriage equality opponents.
What about the State of Washington! It also passed same sex marriage!
Not at the time the article was written. But, yes, it did.
