They should just do a complete ban on smoking. Smoking kills, why have it?

New Zealand is going to ban party pills containing BZP, so far it hasn't kill anyone in NZ, as far as I know, yet cigarettes are still legal but can't be smoked in bars, etc. --Nzgabriel | Talk 06:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Smoking will never be banned, Governments make to much tax off tabacco sales.
I don’t know off hand how much the tax brings in, but I would bet it’s a lot more than they spend on enforcement and the bureaucracy behind it. A ban would cost them plenty and that’s why they won’t do it. But they also want to look compassionate and be able to claim that they are ‘doing something’ about people’s health, so that's why they do public place ban, but that is as far as it will go Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 07:10, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
The NZ Government this year made a surplus, and it was higher than expected. Taking the 'cigarette tax' away from the sum would probably not do much to dent (I don't know the figures either) it. And also, in the public's eye, it seems to look as if the Government is taking money from the cigarette companies to keep them legal. If the Government really wants to do something for public health, then they would ban them. --Nzgabriel | Talk 07:13, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
actually, government would make a fortune by legalizing the smoking of all plants…why isn’t Clark encouraging marijuana legalization…eliminate enforcement costs, control potency, and TAX TAX TAX !!! Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 07:15, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Your view is the same as those with the Legalise cannabis party. A group of people who love to smoke, whose opinions aren't worth the shit they are. --Nzgabriel | Talk 07:19, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
:O What Happened, you use to be the biggest lefty on this site Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 07:22, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's just typical of your kind (righties) taking the debate onto the personal level like that. --Nzgabriel | Talk 07:24, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
