Beat-Up! edit

What a huge beat-up this article is! It looks far more the result of an agency desperately trying to defend its overbloated funding than any real serious analysis of any threat. It's not even a "report" - it's a slide show! It provides absolutely no evidence to back up its assertions as it's merely a summary of what they think at the moment. Leaked eh? Yeah, I bet I know by who! Or maybe it was leaked to show just how pathetic the DHS is?

The document is so absurd it's laughable. I love the bit scarily titled "Terrorist Threat to Food and Agriculture", where "environmental extremists" may "target" food and agriculture - presumably those anti-GM guys I suppose. How they pose a "terrorist threat" is beyond me. Maybe they're thinking of attacking GM crops with a radioactive dirty bomb? Are you sure Wikileaks didn't get this from The Onion?

But the best bit would have to be the "Recent Suspicious Activity" section. This is where I was certain I would find some serious evidence leading to their current conclusions. And it looked VERY serious - 10,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate stolen! Fort Peck Dam going to be attacked by an IED! Oh my God! But wait...."both reports were found not to be terrorism related"!!!!! I just about fell out of my chair laughing.

Next was "Bulk Cell Phone Purchase Activity" ... oh no! Those evil terrorists are trying to build more IEDs! And the activity was VERY suspicious! The purchasers were "described as Middle Eastern"! They used "gift cards or cash"! I can't believe it's not already a crime just to do that! And the motive? (cue spooky background music) Profit!!! Yes, that's right! People are buying cheap mobile phones in the US to resell overseas at a profit!!! I was rolling on the floor at this stage. But wait - apparently some buyers were related to "terrorist networks" ..... maybe some of those phones will be used in IEDs after all?? *Bzzzzzz* Wrong! The motive was ...... FUNDRAISING!!!! At this stage I was choking on my laughter as my co-workers looked on with worried expressions.

And get this - the conclusion of this section ended with "Interesting convergence of incidents; but no definite terrorism nexus"!!!! My co-workers called an ambulance.

Somehow I suspect that Middle Easterners with terrorist connections using cash to purchase lots of mobile phones in the US aren't the only ones trying to do some fundraising. My conclusion of this document is - "Interesting convergence of stupidity; and no definite competence nexus".

I suggest that you do just a little analysis of documents before you turn them into news items if you don't want to look as stupid as the DHS obviously is. --Dox96 02:24, 15 November 2007 (UTC) Bold textReply

I'm glad someone got the big picture. More or less anyhow.. 70.171.191.212 15:20, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Same here. This article states the Pentagon's assertions as fact.

This whole article smells fishy.

Well.. DUH edit

Of course they are planning to. They've probably been wishing and planning to do so for years. And will be for years, whether or not they are successful in doing so. How much did US taxpayers pay to have the DHS tell us something my dog knows? Qaphsiel 04:52, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

As good as can be hoped for edit

Maybe sometime in the next three years someone will set off a bomb - at least it's not imminent. If this still seems at all worrisome, bear in mind that drunk driving kills 18,000 Americans per year. If the Muslims remain at 1.0 percent of the population in the next three years and avoid 540 drunk driving deaths by not drinking, we can indulge them up to three little Oklahoma City style bombings and still make out with a profit. Al WikiJazeera edit

If Al Qaeda wrote a wikinews article detailing their plans and threats to the West with the intention of inflicting terror, then it would read exactly like this. Moral Panic articles like this and the report it is based on almost make the IEDs redundant. Shane.Bell 09:10, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

America worldleader? edit

It shouldn't be a surprise that America can never be a serious candidate for worldleadership anymore. With this kind of stupidity, the whole world doesn't laugh, but gets really angry.Daanschr--82.139.82.234 18:54, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The world has seldom had a leader, and much less often needed one. But as screwed up as the current situation may be, America should not be written off by any means. For some reason the U.S. repeatedly falls under the domination of crooks and swindlers who deny basic rights and decency - slaveowners, robber barons, war profiteers, and corporate imperialists have taken over the whole country over and over. But just as often, out of nowhere, there have popped up abolitionists, labor unionists, peace activists, and patriots who each go through their decade of persecution and injustice to found a mass movement so they can take a shillelagh to all the crooked corridors of power. The U.S. is headed down, but not out - not unless those people are finally gone for good. 70.15.116.59 18:04, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh no! edit

My goodness! I'd better make sure to vote for a tough pro-war candidate during the 2008 Presidential election, or America is going to get blowed up again!!

It's like 2004 all over again. Crap.

Yeah right edit

Absolute rubbish, these Bush apologists are just trying to cover up the fact that Bush dropped the ball before 9/11, if they do attack, I'll eat my hat. TrumpyNZ 04:41, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's normal to consider this 'imaginary' future attack from Al-qaeda, which- I think- will exploit any weakness in the American government to make a big attack to US to change into a muslim country, but Hezboullah don't show and didn't do anything that make doubts that it's an attacking organization! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.42.200.184 (talk) 13:49, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
