what is that line from animal farm? i fully support raising penalties for animal abuse. but to suggest that this dog was an 'officer' is nonsense. why is that dogs life worth more than another's? - Imind (talk) 19:36, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't mind so much the idea of the dog being an officer - it is, I guess. I'm just generally concerned about an officer's life being worth more than anyone else's. Damn, they're heroes, and great guys but it don't make 'em more valuable than anyone else. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 19:44, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
yes, another good point. do they get penalized more when they do wrong? breach of trust on top of the crime committed? seems it would only be fair if the law deems their lives worth more than the commoner. - 216.96.106.130 21:35, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know, but I think they should be. They will of course lose their jobs, but that isn't enough IMO. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 21:59, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
The following is according to Wikipedia:
In many jurisdictions the intentional injury or killing of a police dog is a felony, subjecting the perpetrator to harsher penalties than the statutes embodied in local animal cruelty laws. Depending on jurisdiction, the perpetrator may be charged the same as if a human officer were injured or killed. A growing number of forces outfit dogs with bulletproof vests. Furthermore, a police dog killed in the line of duty is traditionally given a full police funeral/burial just as they would for a human officer.
what is this country turning into?
editOMG..how mean..what is this world coming to?SINCE WHEN IS IT SOCIALLY,MORALLY,OR EVEN LEAGALY RIGHT TO VALUE AN ANIMAL OVER A HUMAN BEING?..this country is sick and everyone that is involved in making an animals life more valuable than one of us should b the ones that should spend the rest of their lives locked up or face the death penalty unless they can come to their senses and stop turning this country into a joke..as if it is even anywhere close to expect that man to stand accused of killing an actual police officer?im all for treating animals humane but when u start to value their existence as more important than any human being youve gone too far..its bad enough to see more commercials nowadays asking for donations for the hungry and mistreated dogs and cats in this country more than they show ones aimed at people in this country that are hungry and mistreated..why do we put poor and unfortunate people of other third world countries and animals here ahead of our own people in this country?..how come their arent more people stepping up and speaking out on issues like these?does everkyone that haa a public voice that is in a elected position have to be so politically correct at all times?..its truly absurd and the people that disagree and think all the animals should have equal rights and would even consider locking up a man for the rest of his life or possibly be put to death for defending himself against an attacking dog should all b put on a really big boat and shipped somewhere far far away and they can all go start their very own society on some of the many vastly small and basically uninhibated islands around the world...here in the U.S.A. we need to keep it real and not all be prodominately followers that think one way buy say another just to appear more kind hearted in some way..and just think theres actually a large portion of citizens that really have these beliefs and really stand by them because we are starting to see the laws that enforce this fact..its sad..and in the biggerscope of things why cant we start living by the true principles that this country was founded on and STOP all the amendments..everyone wants to re-write every single law thats been started in this country ..they want a million do-overs..and want to change everything this country use to stand for just so they can have this society ran in a way that suits them so they amend amend amend until each law is in their version of it..whatever happened to the land of the free?weve made this place into exactly what our ancestors ran away from long ago (speaking as a man of english desent)..the only difference is that we change who our dictator is ever 4-8 years..what a joke weve become..
