Human needs Iodine before radioactive iodine contamination, not after. radioactive iodine tries to replace Iodine in human’s thyroid gland. Human needs enough Iodine to prevent radioactive iodine penetrate his/her thyroid gland. When radioactive iodine is in the thyroid gland it is to drink Iodine. Every Belarusian knows this fact after Chernobyl catastrophe. In Belarus, thyroid gland and other cancer rates rose dozens times. Dangerous radioactive fallout as far as 300 km Chernobyl. Wind direction changed during a few days after Chernobyl catastrophe.

death toll

Wow! Its amazing only 288 people are dead. I was expecting that number to be way higher.

Crazymonkey1123 (talk)03:49, 12 March 2011

It is way, way higher... "in the thousands", acc. Au's defence minister... we'll only know as the magnitude of this disaster unfolds. The prime minister of Japan was a bit ahead of himself on announcing that there had been no leaks in the nuclear power plant. (A great idea to build a nuclear reactor in a quake-prone country! We now know (also acc. to this arvo's announcement by Rudd) that there have been.

A map with "live" simulated wavefront?

For moments like this it would be interesting to have a map displaying an approximate "live" simulated wavefront of the tsunami (an ideal system would actually run simulations of the wave instead of just expand a circle in function of time, and update the simulation as the events happen in case reality disagrees with the simulation to keep it less far from realty).

I guess this isn't possible, at least by our side. I don't think Wikimedia has such... software infrastructure like to generate that, or broadcast that either.

The original person is likely recalling the wavefront GIF produced for the last really big tsunami.

It'd be an idea to look on Commons to see who produced that. Might be available by the time we're doing a followup article.

Brian McNeil / talk17:30, 11 March 2011

Ah, I guess that was done by the US-ian NOAA. Let's wait until it appears or is uploaded by somebody.

I hope everyone's fine.

I have a friend who lives in Japan. I hope his area wasn't affected. RocketMaster (talk) 13:07, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
