Chinese New Year to be celebrated in Bucharest for the first time

Bucharest, Romania — The Lunar New Year's Eve Festival will be celebrated in Bucharest, Romania for the first time ever as an organised event. The celebrations will include live shows, food exhibitions and fireworks, and will take place on February 10 in Nichita Stănescu Park.

The 9th of February is rooster year New Year of the Chinese lunar calendar.

Designed to promote Chinese cultural heritage, the event will be organised by Bucharest City Hall, as well as the Romania-China Cultural Centre and the Chinese Embassy in Bucharest.

Signifying the end of the winter and the start of spring, the Chinese New Year takes place on a different day at the beginning of the year, based on the moon's position relative to the sun. The celebrations will mark the beginning of the Year of the Rooster.
