Cost?

Calls to +1-202-742-5918 are charged as long distance calls (to the US) so prices would vary depending on whether you're calling from a mobile or landline, who your service provider are, etc. I think Wikinews should look into setting up a UK 0800 hotline, seeing as quite a few Brits use Wikinews, but it's probably too expensive. Text Number

I think this service COULD work well although it would make sense to convert it to a text line only, using SMS. The BBC aparently do a good service. That would work very well. Just some ideas, any more than post them heres. Simon Stirrat (streetmagix)

Suggestion

Can I suggest that a national rate 0870 UK number be added to the list. This can be obtained for free, and can be directed to an Open Source VOIP Asterisk server. When this technology has been put in place, then users can 'man' the hotline by simply connecting to the Asterisk server with a VOIP hardphone or softphone. Total cost of this solution (given the availability of a free internet connected server) is nothing.

In fact, without using the server, I can impliment the solution for zero cost at all but only an answerphone message will be available. When a message is left the voicemail will be emailed in a WAV format to a designated person.

That's awesome ! I was recently at a demonstration which turned violent, and I had no way to inform people who would have been interested... I often have entire days without an internet connection. Now I will always have this European hotline number in my cellphone ! I hope that these numbers will stay, and that some people will dedicate their wikitime to listening to messages... SIP/H323 machine?

OGG or WAV

The article says .WAV files, but the new submissions list displays .ogg files? I'm confused. 62.20.156.137 22:56, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

They get emailed to us in wav, but we upload them in ogg as ogg is way smaller then wav. Bawolff ☺☻ 23:11, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Removed UK hotline number
