HALT!!!
OK, it is time for your joking to end. You are potentially offending people, both here in the Wikinews community and the wider readership. What you are doing could be seen as vandalism and you could get blocked from editing Wikinews for it. Be careful and be serious from now on, especially on talk pages like this one.

Ariel Sharon

That article on Ariel Sharon's death is realy in bad taste. That a news body must prepare for anythingin advance may be true, but it is sick how it apears on the main page of the newsroom, as a prepared article. I am not the only one whose found it sick, please do something about it. TownCrier 21:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much for advice about refreshing the page - I had been doing that for a long time but to no effect. Seems the lack of a verb was the problem. Yet another wikimystery. :-) Fentonrobb 21:22, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome. As you can probably tell I suck at html, took in college but forgot most if it. I hope I can contribute as much as possible. Free news written by YOU is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I worked for a newspaper for a couple of years but got tired of reporting and moved to auto mechanics. Maybe wikinews can re-establish the old curiosity gene in me! First things first though. learn about this site. thanks again

Ah FellowWikiNews! Terinjokes's Sincere Apology

Today, December 11th, 2006. I, Terinjokes made a few irrational decisions while sugar high. One of these decision resulted in offending a fellow wikinews user, FellowWikiNews.

After visiting FellowWikiNews's user talk to leave a comment in response to Wikinews:Administrators, i was informed that I had new messages, or so I thought. Turns out I, again, fell pray to FellowWikiNews's practical joke. In a rather dry response, I sarcastically nominated one of FellowWikiNews's user pages for speedy deletion. Despite not using the official template, and removing the categories, I still realise that I broke some Wikinews policies, and breaking the trust of FellowWikiNews. Its the latter that saddens me more.

It takes a long time to gain the trust of a community, and it hurts me to lose the trust of FellowWikiNews. My tasteless joke backfired, destroying the very thing I made the joke upon.

I hope FellowWikiNews excepts my apology, as I prepare for the long road of regaining his trust. I, after breaking policy and vandalising another user's userpage, deserve whatever consequences I've brought against myself. terinjokes User Page / Talk 23:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

User:Language123

I can understand possibly blocking the user but the user had zero prior warnings and you indef blocked and protected the user's page- was such an extreme measure necessary? (It might be that I'm just use to the 'pedias where that would be seen as very extreme behavior(I'm still learning the ropes over at wikinews). JoshuaZ 22:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think that its pretty clear that user:Language123 isn't here to contribute to Wikinews. He should stay blocked because he is a vandal. According to our username policy, inflammatory, deliberately confusing, and other inappropriate usernames are not allowed, and in certain circumstances, admins may block accounts with such usernames. Use of Canadian flag in signature

Do you realize using the flag in your sig makes making checking appropriate use of the flag more difficult? I'm sure there's other people I should be grumbling to about this for use of country flags, perhaps you could do it on my behalf. --Brian McNeil / talk 19:16, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, so how about PVJ? He has the Indian flag in his signature and has used the flag in his from the start. Check out the links to Image:Flag_of_India.svg. FellowWikiNews (W)   23:13, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
In general images in signatures aren't a good thing. The above mentioned issue is a problem but there are other considerations as well. Among a multitude of issues, they slow down talk page loading for people on slower connections, they add to server drain, they are potential targets of vandalism or denial of service attacks (by uploading a different image in place of the one you have in your signature). JoshuaZ 04:05, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Flag fun

When you've worked out a way to put the flag in a sig without messing up the "what links here" can you tell me (and PVJ) what his signature should be. I'll turn that into a search/replace for AWB and fix the problem there (his username/sigs).

Incidentally, you need to consider whether or not this is going to need stuff protected all over the place. What if someone vandalises the template? Won't a change to the template require the refreshing of hundreds of pages? Please have a think about the issues highlighted on Wikipedia's page about signatures, and if you think it should be a open discussion which Brion can be asked for an opinion on then stick it on the water cooler. (Brion would be involved if a template is going to be used in thousands of places and we needed to know what the impact on the servers would be). --Brian McNeil / talk 20:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I will not have a flag in my signature. I can't work out a way to fix this problem. Also, will PVJ still be allowed to have a flag in his sig? FellowWikiNews 21:00, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Failure to comply will result in going to jail with Santa. (Note: Santa is Satan spelt backwards)!

Christmas Story (Children Friendly):

So kids, is Santa Democrat or Republican??!

Often depicted as an obese man wearing a tasteless red, ermine trimmed suit, Santa Claus is a self-employed Caucasian male who's been married to the same woman for several centuries. It appears likely that he is a churchgoer, insofar as he is a Catholic saint and a former bishop. It has to be assumed here that Claus was released from his vows, or else he would not have been married.

Frequent arguments have erupted over the political affiliation of Claus. Ten years ago, Dick Cheney inadvertently dealt a savage blow to the morale of the Republican Party when he misidentified the political affiliation of Santa Claus in his best-selling book, Parliament of Whores. "Santa Claus," he said, "is a Democrat." However it is perfectly obvious from his demographic profile alone that Santa is in fact a Republican.

This assessment is often rebutted by Democrats with Anne-McCaffery counter-analysis: Santa Claus has no children. High-achieving professionals without children trend Democratic. While the Clausian canon does not specifically address the issue of Santa's children, numerous extra-canonical sources suggest that Claus did, in fact, reproduce. Numerous Christmas TV movie specials alone support this point.

Santa is renowned for an aggressive adherence to a binary naughty/nice list, which suggests an impatience for nuanced moral positions that betrays his Republican preferences. Santa's mere willingness to define individuals along a naughty/nice axis demonstrates his indifference to the philosophical stance of, say, The New York Times. And note that no canonical or extra-canonical Clausian text indicates that Santa ever attended college or, God forbid, graduate school.

THE END!!!

You shouldn't use wikipedia as a source for [non-wikipedia] logo's as Wikipedia has a lot of users who don't know what there doing, and half the time the image won't be there tommorow. (Especially if there isn't a source on the image at wikipedia) Bawolff 03:08, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

New idea for community goings-on

Hi, (I hope you don't mind this general message, I'm just randomly contacting people from my talk page)

I've had an idea after reading User:Kinnerc/WhereToWikinews? that might make people more aware of what's currently going on on this site, what discussions are being held, where help is needed etc. I've designed a little signpost-like box that I would like to introduce as a newsletter to post on user talk pages. Of course, the majority is copied from the Newsroom, which I think people don't visit often enough. Oh yeah, and the title should probably change :-D

I would appreciate some feedback on the idea, and also I'm interested to know if you would subscribe to such a newsletter. Please go to User_talk:Stevenfruitsmaak/Goings-on.
