Dpr~enwikinews
Welcome edit
Dpr, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! -- Davodd | Talk 06:12, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
CPC edit
It's called the Communist Party of China on Wikipedia, and that article uses CPC. Do you have a source that suggests using CCP instead? — DV 22:39, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Writing contest invitation edit
Hi Dpr!
I'd like to invite you to participate in the Wikinews:Writing contest. Quite a lot of prizes are waiting for the winner, and with 6 contestants left, your chances are pretty good. See the contest page for the rules; in a nutshell, every contestant has to write one article per day, or they will drop out. There's a catch: As a late entrant, you would have to write at least 2 articles per day until your "article debt" (1 article for every day you joined late, after March 21) is zero.
Still, seeing how prolific you've been here so far, I think you could pull it off. So, what do you think?--Eloquence 23:44, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Riot in China edit
Hi Dpr,
I noticed that you removed the Xinhua citation from the list of sources in the article, Chinese rioters storm Japanese embassy in Beijing, with the comment "copyediting".
Here is the entry in the article's history showing your edit.
Was this deletion intentional? I went ahead and restored the Xinhua citation on the assumption that your deletion was a mistake. — DV 23:53, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- No, DV, I apologize...completely unintentional! Thanks for restoring it. Dpr 00:09, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks again for helping to improve so many of the China-related articles. I appreciate it. Sometimes there aren't so many contributors interested in such stories.
- Also, I'm glad you chose to sign in with a name so I can know you as someone more than IP 70.57.139.181. — DV 00:33, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Le Monde edit
Thanks for the Le Monde link.
I followed up on your comments on the article's user talk page. — DV 02:26, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I added a question about non-English sources to the Policy section of the Water cooler. Hopefully some of the regular contributors will continue the discussion over there. — DV 04:06, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Dpr. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Dpr~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
