Hm. Facts are, indeed, slippery things. This Wikinews article reports that the Guardian quoted him as saying "Yeah, I'm homophobic, I don't like the gays. Sorry, it just does my head in." Supposing the Guardian did quote him as saying that, and supposing he did say it,

  • What sense of the meaning of his comment is suggested by the excerpt we provide? I'm not sure what it means; the first half could be sarcasm, and the second half leaves that possibility present but ambiguous. Possibly the ambiguity is the point.
  • Is that sense of the meaning different from the sense suggested by what he said when taken in its original context?
  • Is it different from the sense suggested by what he said in the context of the Guardian's quoting of it?
