Ugly

Even with our project name spelled correctly, I think the banner is still an eyesore and is very distracting. Can't we at least make the text a few sizes smaller? And "WIKINEWS FOREVER" just sounds bad/corny. "Support Wikinews" would be much more suitable, imho. Tempodivalse [talk] 15:57, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Improving the appearance, influencing the message presentation

We've really ignored the efforts to get this off the ground, as well as an ad-agency with a collective IQ of 12 dreaming up the slogans. How can we sort this out a bit better? --Brian McNeil / ^talk 17:18, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm a bit concerned that we'll face repercussions from the folks at the foundation for changing their slogan. I've read some of the discussions on wikipedia regarding this, and it seems as though the devs have been warning admins who want to remove the banners locally. Our own donation page?

Regardless of the hatred inspired by the previous central notice, what about the donation page itself? Right now you land on http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate which basically chants "WIKIPEDIA WIKIPEDIA WIKIPEDIA". Why can't we jack the page layout (And most important the donation form template) and make our own? We can make something nice that goes to show why you should support the WMF from the Wikinews perspective. There's mention here (item 5 on "Thursday") of an extension which will allow donations whilst staying within a project site. This sounds like it could be just what we want, but that was the only mention of it I could find. Anyone know more about this? the wub "?!" 23:17, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Wikinews-specific

Has anyone looked at the Ariel extension they're talking about? Will this be done properly? That is, will a proper SSL cert be bought for *.wikinews.org and the entire donation process appear on this wiki?

As a few people probably noticed, I hacked a Donate link into the main page header - as well as finally getting round to using the {{plink}} template I got Bawolff to help cobble together. Lots of tooltips in there now.

Since they've now got the banners and such up on Wikipedia, which was most-important for the WMF, there might be time to try and get Wikinews' input and effort on designing a page to solicit donations. No need to spend $250,000 on a bunch of "ad-specialists"; I think that was a complete waste of money and get the distinct impression is the campaign has been designed like selling another brand of soap powder. --Brian McNeil / ^talk 16:03, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
