Facebook

I'm going to try to find a way to make a button or something into the {{Publish}} template to 'like' Wikinews articles on Facebook. Let's see if this works out... アンパロ Io ti odio! 00:35, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Doing so is in violation of our privacy policy... Bawolff 03:22, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, really? アンパロ Io ti odio! 03:25, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well all the implementations of the facebook like button that I'm aware of involve loading either an external script, or an external iframe. Both methods transfer information (at the very least browsing habits, probably could match the data up with other data to get all sorts of scary stuff. Given the type of stuff facebook has access to, I'd say it'd be trivial to match a name to what articles you're viewing) to a third party without the users permission. The difference between the "like" button, and what we currently have is that the like button the information is transferred on page view (regardless of if the user clicks on it), where our current setup information is only transferred if the user actually clicks on the button. (For reference, there was (one of many) threads about this recently on wikitech-l [1] ). Bawolff 05:21, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah *fucks off* アンパロ Io ti odio! 22:14, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
lol. It was a good thought though. Bawolff 01:59, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Bawolff, there is a related discussion going on at w:Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Link to Facebook. Nothing similar to what you mention here has been mentioned there, so if you wouldn't mind dropping an opinion, that'd be appreciated. WN's {{publish}} template was mentioned there, as an example of how WP could implement social bookmarking, which is what brought me here. Thanks! Help needed: Fixing RSS feed for French Wikinews

I just would like to draw your attention to a problem with French Wikinews' RSS Feed. It has been inactive for several months because the account on toolserver it ran on has expired. Unfortunately, no one there knows how to fix it. The question has been raised at the French WN's equivalent fo Water Cooler. So, if you could help WN-fr, please contact admins at French Wikinews there. I am just a German wikipedian handing on the issue because I presume on WN-en there are probably more people able to help. Thx.--Aschmidt (talk) 23:15, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
