Starting a Wikinews article

Almost all articles on English Wikinews start on the "Writing an article" page. Because articles are not published until they have successfully gone through a peer review, the article page allows you to practice editing, experiment, plan out the article or start the draft before submitting it for review.

To go to the default article start page, simply click the Write an article link, which can be found on the left hand menu.

Once there, scroll down the page until you see the box Create page. Give your article a name and then hit the Create page button. Consider putting your username in front of the article. For example: User:WalterKronkite/My First Wikinews Article.

The following text will appear:

{{develop}}
{{date|{{subst:#time:F j, Y}}}}

Delete this line, and start typing your article in its place

{{haveyoursay}}
== Sources ==

*{{source|url=
|title=
|author=
|pub=
|date=
}}
*{{source|url=
|title=
|author=
|pub=
|date=
}}

If this is your first time editing on Wikinews, play around but please leave all text on the page other than Delete this line, and start typing your article in its place. Otherwise, do anything. This is a place to experiment. Play around.

You can try making links to other Wikinews pages, to Wikipedia articles, adding italic text, adding pictures, formatting sources, adding categories, or including an infobox.

Don’t forget to click on "Save page” when you're done editing.
