Wikinews:Criteria for Categories

The following is a proposed Wikinews policy, guideline, or process. The proposal may still be in development, under discussion, or in the process of gathering consensus for adoption. Thus references or links to this page should not describe it as "policy".

Introduction

The purpose of this guideline is to lay out clear criteria under which new categories may be created; when they should be created. And, cases where the creation of a category is clearly inappropriate.

Please bear in mind that Wikinews employs the DPL extension! This makes a significant number of the categories in existence on other projects, such as Wikipedia, unneccessary. Creation of such – effectively – creates additional maintenance work.
