Use inverted pyramid style. Put the most important and newsworthy facts first: basics in the lede, details most to least important, general background last.

Write to be easily understood, by an international audience.
Prefer short paragraphs; typically 30–80 words, 1–3 sentences. One topic per paragraph.

Concentrate on new facts and their consequences.
Attribute factual claims within the story text, so the reader knows where it's coming from (except common knowledge).

Promote the human aspects of any story, using quotes etc.
Use punchy, active language, to give a sense of immediacy.
Use present or past tense.
