Welcome
editWilliam S. Saturn/2008, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Cirt (talk) 07:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Ironic synchronicity
editEarlier this week in IRC I joked about running for WMF board next year, shaving my head, and referring to everyone else as my "long-haired opponents". Prompted me to re-read Hunter S. Thompson's WP bio, so your article with the "purloined" title is apt. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:43, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I find Hunter S. Thompson to be extremely intriguing, and its a shame he is no longer with us. Also, I have discovered that on all these wikis strange occurrences are commonplace.--William Saturn (talk) 16:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Excellent article, and a very interesting read - I hadn't seen that yet. :) Thunderhead 19:22, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks.--William Saturn (talk) 19:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Do not edit quotes
editThe section you edited on the prohibition party candidate was a direct quote. Never, ever edit those parts! --Brian McNeil / talk 17:15, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- Apologies! The edit description made me think you were making a grammatical correction to a direct quote. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:10, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Not rude at all.
editI see your point. Don't worry, that's not being rude. —Calebrw (talk) 16:47, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- Done. You need to be an editor to do so. There is a list of people with the editor privilege, but I can't seem to find it. —Calebrw (talk) 17:57, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
The article you just made dealing with the potential vp candidate i redirected to the above article, since the annoucement will occur tomorrow morning. Hope you don't mind. The Mind's Eye (talk) 03:24, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I understand, but u have to understand the announcement is probably less than 12 hours a day. The Mind's Eye (talk) 03:26, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I entirely agree with u on it being newsworthy, but notice the following [1] which specifically refers to Chet Edward as a possibility would make your article some 20 days stale. The Mind's Eye (talk) 03:31, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well perahps you could change the title to mention something about that, and mention he confirming the possibility in the article. The Mind's Eye (talk) 03:40, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I added a paragraph on Edwards not getting a phone call from obama. The Mind's Eye (talk) 03:54, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I made one final edit by moving one sentence to the bottom for chronological purposes. I can't review though because i am a "invovled" editor. Cheers, The Mind's Eye (talk) 04:00, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- It make more since, by telling what the story is about and then adding background at the bottom of the article. The Mind's Eye (talk) 14:11, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
