Getting on to Google News
Hi Jon,
I'm an administrator on the RuneScape Wiki, and I was wondering if it would be feasible to get us onto Google News. I asked around and someone said that you got WikiNews on there. Would doing this be possible on a wiki that is not completely news based? There are updates to the game the wiki is about every week or so, so we were wondering if we could get the pages related to those updates onto the news queue. Secondly, what changes would we have to make to the infrastructure of the wiki in order to get it on there?
Thank you,

- I actually did not do get us listed in the first place, that was User:Brian McNeil. I just help with managing the data/rss/formatting/etc. I couldn't tell you if Google News would pick you up content wise, but they are picky about how the news is presented. We had to make sure they only crawl the front page and we must have specially formatted links for the news (If you look at Template:Main headlines you'll see ?dpl_id=123456 in each link, part of what GNews requires). Additionally you have to have "editorial control" over the news, ie an editor that copyedits/publishes news - not the standard "(almost) anyone can post it". This is why they don't run most blogs. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 07:08, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
Social networking
Seasons' bleatings; I'm suitably irked at how messed up all of enWN's Facebook/Twitter/whatever stuff is.
Can you please email me all account details you have, plus any code for managing them?
Since I, and a couple other people, trust a certain Mr VIBBER, I want to see the whole thing run thru identica. That, plus cron jobs on wikinewsie.org, which has proven more reliable than the toolserver. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:07, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm confused. Whats wrong with Twitter? Right now I feed identica and that pushes over to Twitter. Both of those portions work properly. Also... the toolserver isn't in anyway involved. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 07:09, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
- There's been grumbling on the Water Cooler. Apparently Facebook isn't getting fed anything. This is likely related to it going from twitter to Facebook, and that not having been updated to match the changes in twitter and FB. My thinking is that identica should drive everything. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:16, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
- You do know you're an admin on the Facebook page already? And to my knowledge, It goes Wiki->Someones RSS converter (I forget who)->Feedburner->wmf4.me->identica->Twitter . See, easy! --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 04:44, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
- Someone's RSS Feed converter is CSpurrier's http://thenewswiki.com/wn/wnfeed.xml (I'm not sure if its his entirely, but he takes care of it now a days. a bunch of other people used to be involved but they all left). Bawolff ☺☻ 04:49, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
- Grumble, grumble. Web(No)Sense @ $work blocks Farcebook. And that sounds like the most hideous Social Networking distribution scheme I've ever heard of. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:11, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
