Brilliant design. Except, it's a little unconventional for a news site and is a tad "flashy". It's also a hacky design due to MediaWiki blocking all the useful html; if we used MediaWiki:Common.css to define some div classes and such we should be able to use the background-image bit and make this much simpler.
