@Acagastya: I honestly don't think this is going to print. The local media had the story on Friday and the national media had it on Sunday. Anyway you cut it, it is pretty stale. It's timed out? Day-um, this is a weird one and I think the readers would like it. But legal cases tend to have predictable developments. You could kick this back to "development" or "prepared" and refocus it on the filing of subsequent charges, the beginning of the trial, or any other suitable event.
