User:Tempodivalse/Thoughts about the project

These are a collection of thoughts and suggestions for the Wikinews community. They are not intended to be judgments about any particular individuals.

  • Wikinews must strive to be as professional in interacting with other users as it is in writing articles. Community and content are inseparable. If the former falters, so will the latter.
  • Insulting others helps nothing and hurts everything. At best, the insulter gains a temporary, petty feeling of self-satisfaction. At worst, outsiders gain a poor impression of the project and lose desire in contributing. Personal attacks unnecessarily distract users from the central goal of contributing.
  • It is important to listen to the suggestions and advice of new contributors. Those who work within the inner workings of the project frequently lose perspective and fail to see the bigger picture.
  • Having fresh eyes critique and offer suggestions is essential to progress. Wikinews must be open to change to ensure continued prosperity. If the small community, enclosed in a bubble, feverously believes something to be right, yet the rest of the world disapproves and thinks it is wrong, is there any future for Wikinews?
  • Policy should dictate ideas, not specific actions. A rule can be followed to the letter yet broken in spirit.
