Lolcat does not approve.

I may be a 14-year-old Mexican who thinks My Chemical Romance doesn't suck, but that doesn't mean my opinions don't matter. Well, actually it does, but here are my opinions anyway. Ignorance and stupidity await.

Politics

edit

I don't really like to think of myself as a liberal, but according to the Political Compass, I'm about as socially and economically liberal as Gandhi, so I guess I'm stuck with that label. I think my views are closer to that of Libertarians, but if I had to pick one party to affiliate myself with, I'd pick the Democrats. But only because most of the Republicans are stupid beyond repair.

'08 Elections

edit

Like Obama. Hate Hillary. Also kinda liked Gravel, but everyone else hates him for some reason. I support Bill Richardson for VP if Obama gets the nom. If Hillary gets the nom, then screw it, I'm moving to Mexico.

Of the Republicans, the only one I really, really disliked was Romney. He looks like a zombie Nixon. The rest were okay, even though I disagreed with most of their positions. My favorite Republican would have to have been Ron Paul.

Iraq War

edit

At first I didn't really care much about the war, but really - how many more proposed troop pullouts do we need? How many more surges do we need? How many more "missions accomplished" do we need? It's over. It's done. Or at least it should be. Do something, Congress - you too, Bush. Seriously.

Gay marriage

edit

Even though as a Catholic, I believe homosexuality is immoral, I don't think it should be illegal. I realize that not everyone is this country is a Christian, or a Jew, or a Muslim, or a member of any other religion which thinks homosexuality is wrong. For the people who think religion is a load of crap, and also the people who choose not to follow that one rule in their religion, we must ensure full rights for gays. Being gay isn't hurting anyone. At all. Not even "family values".

Abortion

edit

Abortion, on the other hand, should be illegal. Unlike homosexuality, abortion actually is hurting someone - or at least a potential someone. I find it immoral and unethical to terminate the life of a human being, no matter how unhuman the fetus may appear. If all fetuses looked exactly like the people they could eventually grow up to be, I doubt we'd be having much debate over abortion. You can call me old-fashioned, but you'd be wrong.

Affirmative action

edit

Against it. Why? Because of the guilt I'd experience if I got accepted to MIT over some Asian with an SAT score 200 points higher than mine. (Not being racist, by the way. 90% of my friends are Asian.) It really is reverse discrimination. Give minorities a chance, we can do good on our own. Maybe improve inner-city schools or something, but don't give us a free pass.

Immigration

edit

Against total deportation, against a giant wall, but for stronger security and possibly amnesty for those without criminal records who have come to find a better life.

Education

edit

NCLB is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done. Especially for the gifted, who are often the ones left behind when schools focus more on those who are failing. I realize no child should be denied a good education, but if gifted children are continually forced to conform to a dumbed down curriculum, where will the scientists, the writers, the Nobel Prize winners, the geniuses, be tomorrow? Not in the United States, that's for sure.

Wikipedia

edit

I hate when teachers hate Wikipedia without giving a reason besides "anyone can edit it". Yeah, but doesn't that also mean anyone can improve it? Just tell the stupid kids not to take everything on the site at face value and let the rest of us Wiki in peace. Free information pwns.
