A mystery Twitter user has been blamed for uncovering the seven month affair between Manchester United player, Ryan Giggs, and Big Brother Uk’s ‘sexiest ever housemate' via a 'tweet', posted to the site on May 8.

Since being exposed as the secret lover of British model and Big Brother UK 2006 contestant Imogen Thomas, Giggs has been named by approximately 75, 000 people on twitter, making it virtually impossible for courts to enforce privacy laws. The anonymous nature of Twitter means that despite any potential court orders, identifying the culprit will prove a difficult task.

The affair, which is believed to have begun in Sept. of last year, has stunned the public - "I'm shocked. This is incredible. I can't believe it. He's such a family man,” Giggs’ agent said. The football legend made his debut with Manchester United at just 17 and has since won a record breaking 12 Premier League titles.

It is alleged that Thomas had been blackmailing Giggs for a payment of £50,000 and that she has threatened to sell her story to the media. Her story was later sold through Max Clifford and appeared in UK newspaper, the Sunday Mirror on the April 17.

28 year old Thomas is no stranger to media attention, after being catapulted into the limelight in 2006 during her stint on Big Brother. She went on to pursue a successful modelling career, but it was her rendezvous’ with celebrities including Russell Brand, and a leaked sex tape that she became best known for.

The “trending” of the affair on twitter has seen thousands of users change their profile pictures to photos of Giggs, and post ‘I can’t Imogen why’ on their page.
