Surprising bids
As an englishman I was obviously gutted that I won't be seeing a world cup here for a good few decades at least, or however long Sepp Blatter can keep is claws in either the presidency of FIFA or life in general.
Haha to be fair this was my first instinct - we've been cheated out of it, it's a fix, everybody is against England. On reflection I think that they genuinely did want the WC to go to a country that hasn't hosted it before, the same with Qatar, this may be an indicator as to why England was plumb last! Why then, let us spend several years and several millions of pounds on a campaign we were never going to have a chance of winning - akin to BBC and ITV rigged phone in competitions.
So ok, we only got two votes - Australia got ONE?! They've never hosted a world cup, whereas Japan & Korea and the USA both have within the last 20ish years so it should have been a dead heat between Australia and Qatar right??
Speaking of heat...Qatar is hot. This concern is coupled with my only experience of sporting events in qatar/bahrain/abu dhabi etc in Formula 1. These venues are literally built in the desert and struggle to gain much in the way of attendence, I can only hope that this lack of interest/affluence that prevents spectators attending the F1 events does not translate to football.
I hope my concerns are unfounded and that we have two gd world cups on our hands and that the real loser isn't the sport at the expence of giving other people a go on the world cup stage.
