Tool tips

edit

How about using the title attribute to pop-up a tool tip of what place the various temperatures are for? All that needs to be done is add |tooltip=Toronto, Ontario to the associated label. Bawolff 22:25, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds cool. We should do this. FellowWiki Newsie 18:53, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is a good idea, it allows the placenames to be presented without cluttering the map. I've yet to get this working completely but I've now added tooltips with the stations ICAO code which whilst probably isn't too useful for most users, it is a step towards getting placenames. I'm tracking this issue as ADAMBRO-1. Adambro 16:16, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Done This is now working. Adambro 21:46, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

Hello. This could be merged with Template:Weather World F, with simple JavaScript that switches between °C and °F. Users without JavaScript support would fallback to the base unit. Would this be desirable? Pathoschild 02:03, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I think that would be very interesting and I would welcome suggestions as to how best to do it. I also note the above suggestion and as one of the users involved in this project will try to see it implemented as soon as possible although I personally am quite busy at the moment and have limited internet access. The JavaScript would iterate over each unit on the page and apply a mathematical conversion. I can put together a script to do it Monday; I'll be away over the weekend. Pathoschild 04:22, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
The javascript would be fairly easy to do. However we should still maintain links to a manual celcius and ferinheight version for the people who don't use javascript. Bawolff 01:31, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Transferring

edit

Can we transfer this (and Fahrenheit also) weather forecast into Russian Wikinews? --Flrn 07:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Below zero?

edit

I notice the map never shows any below-zero temperatures... it'll get to zero, but never below. Is it just luck of the draw, where I've only looked at it when there were no below-zero temperatures to show, or is there some kind of limitation in the software or data source? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.236.223.159 (talkcontribs) 08:05, 18 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thats weird. I'm below zero currently (I'm not on this map though), there is no way places way north of me are all zero. If I were to guess, bug in software. What is the probability that most of Russia is all the same temperature? Bawolff 20:31, 18 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is fixed now to a certain extent, there is a bug in part of the software that gets the data from one of the sources. As an interim measure I've disabled that source so there's a slightly increased chance that the bot won't be able to get the latest temperatures. I'll be working to fix the bug to make the other source available. Adambro 16:53, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Colors

It's really hard to see the numbers when File:Button-Purple.svg and File:Button-Blue.svg are used. Can someone rearrange the template so that lighter colors are used? I will contact the creator of the button files to see if maybe we can get some more colors.-Runningonbrains (talk) 03:18, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done This should be okay now. I've changed the template so that white text is used on the two more darker images to improve the contrast. Adambro (talk) 14:41, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why isn't it updated

edit

I wonder why isn't it updated hourly like the template says its supposed to be? Or did the project fall through? --Clarkcj12 (talk) 20:24, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

The system is fragile, and requires the operation of a bot to retrieve the data and update the template. I believe the resources to reinstate this now exist, but it has not yet been considered a priority. - Amgine | t 20:41, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
