The purpose of this template edit

Amgine accurately described this as a mix between {{NPOV}} and {{stub}}. Basically, it reflects my strong belief (which I have argued for since the inception of Wikinews) that the publication of an article should not be permanently halted simply because another editor has pointed out information that woud be potentially useful to make the article more balanced and neutral.

My rationale here is that it would be very trivial to enumerate many useful additions for almost any Wikinews article, and it would not be fair to permanently lock down an article because of that. Instead, those who feel that an article is incomplete and lacks balance should be given a reasonable opportunity to edit it before it is published, and others should be encouraged to do the same, but if no additional information can be found, or nobody feels up to doing the necessary legwork, the article can still be published, and the tag removed, within a reasonable timeframe.

It is very important to me that it is possible to publish controversial articles on Wikinews, even in situations where there is a 50/50 split of opinion (e.g., an article that is potentially damaging to US Republicans, or US Democrats). The flagging system is key to the publication process, so we have to carefully look at the potential effects every flag might have on the publication cycle.--Eloquence 21:59, 16 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
