Mis-spelling in quotations

edit

user:Shane did write "cashes" but meant caches. Should it be invisibly corrected or [sic] added?

  • I only changed the quotations to clearly paraphrase jargon that I didn't expect a non-Wikipedian readership to understand, such as "[biased]" for "POV". There are arguments for and against correcting spelling mistakes. On the one hand, it makes people look stupid to leave them as they stand. (Print newspapers will remove hesitations and mistakes from verbal quotations for this reason.) On the other hand, it's modifying what people actually said/wrote, and makes us less credible if we are being seen to silently modify things. Uncle G 13:50, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Quotations

edit

The following was added by 81.178.100.83:

  • "I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier to lock the Wikipedia database once it is 12:00am GMT-12, and unlock it when it is 12:01am GMT+12." said Wikipedia contributor Spe88.
  • Spe88 later added: "It should be best to do this every year."

Checking w:Special:Contributions/Spe88 I find that Spe88 did not say that, and in fact has not made any edits at all during April Fool's Day. Uncle G 18:54, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Deletion notices

edit

I actually changed Template:Delete too, it's also worth noting that I copied it from is:Snið:Tortíma which is. uses as its normal deletion notice. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 22:11, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You forgot to ligature it!

edit

In the article you wrote 'encyclopaedia', and you obviously meant to ligature it. KirbyMeister 02:12, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Newsworthy?

edit

I don't see how the subject is newsworthy. Delete? — Jeandré du Toit, 2005-04-03t09:29z

Spanish-language Wikinews prank

edit

As some of you may know, on December 28 Iberoamericans (except Brazil) commemorate the Massacre of the Innocents with pranks. Spanish-language Wikinews features an article about a supposed BP acquisition by PDVSA, as the Spanish-language Wikipedia presents an article about the Krill War. 168.176.160.13 16:10, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Portuguese-language Wikipedia prank

edit

You could also add to the article, that the sysops on the Portuguese Wikipedia posted as a featured article a article about a fake animal. -- Visitor 18:59, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
