I received an email yesterday from the police spokesman cited. It has been forwarded to scoop. It is also pasted below. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 21:52, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello Iain

My colleague <name removed> passed your queries on to me. I have pasted our responses into the e-mail below. Thanks,

Pierre

Has a post mortem been carried out and if so what did it show? A Home Office pathologist carried out a post mortem last week but we are still awaiting the official written report.

  • Does your force expect to bring charges or will it leave such a decision to the Crown Prosecution Service?

Charging decisions in serious crimes are a matter for the CPS.

  • Are you seeking anyone else in connection with the death?

We have arrested two men who are on police bail until 13 September.

  • Has your force managed to determine how the offenders were able to access Mr Coello's cell? If so, can you disclose how it occurred?

The circumstances surrounding the murder are still being investigated.

  • Are you investigating the possibility inmates were given access to Mr Coello by prison officers?

No.

  • What activities were going on in the prison at the time of the murder?

This is a matter for the Ministry of Justice.

  • Had the inmates who were arrested arrived at HMP Grendon within the last few months?

This is a matter for the Ministry of Justice.

  • Are they still at HMP Grendon?

This is a matter for the Ministry of Justice.

  • Can you release the names of those involved? If so, what offences were they jailed for? (If there is a risk of identification arrising from naming their convictions, then please make it broad e.g. violence or child sex offences)

In line with Association of Chief Police Officer (ACPO) guidelines, Thames Valley Police does not release information which could confirm the identity of a suspect, unless that person is an adult and has been charged with an offence.

  • Would you describe your force's interrogation of the suspects as 'productive'?

Both suspects have been interviewed and have been bailed back to prison until 13 September. The authorities at HMP Grendon are co-operating fully with our investigation.

Second email edit

The second email from me, and response, comes below and is also forwarded to scoop. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 16:44, 12 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

[from me] Pierre,

Thanks for your earlier answers. As a quick follow-up, can you tell me what sort of timeframe the police expect to have the written report from the post mortem?

Best,

Iain Macdonald Freelance journalist and Wikinews accredited reporter

[Frome Pierre] Hello Iain

Happy to help.

I’m afraid the PM report is down to the pathologist – we just don’t know.

In the meantime our enquiries continue and both the subjects are in prison after all, which makes things easier.

All the best,

Pierre
