Can someone provide a source for

Verizon bought MCI, a long distance company in January and also says that they did not hand over records.

This sentence contradicts

But the statement by Verizon left open the possibility that MCI, the long-distance carrier it bought in January, did turn over such records — or that the unit, once absorbed into Verizon, had continued to do so.

Not making a statement about something is very different from making a statement that one is "unsure". In other words, Verizon did not say anything about MCI, contrary to what the article claims. That is better, although "would" should be "did", I don't think anyone specifically asked about MCI yet, it is just that their statement is taylored to exclude MCI. I have made this a little more explicity like the the WaPo and NYT source. Looks good to me now, I will add some wikilinks. I find this extremely funny in that I recently contacted an employee representative of Verizon, who assured me that Verizon complied with everything the federal government asked of them, including giving customer records to the National Security Agency for surveillance. 72.227.76.238 00:34, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
