editThe following sentences are based on information seen in Alistair Darling's speech (broadcast on BBC Parliament)
- In his statement announcing the move, Alistair Darling, the Chancellor of the Exchequer has admitted that, over the next year, national debt will go up from 2.8% to 4.4% over the next year, although he stated that they were necessary to avoid a recession.
- The move will last until the end of next year, and it will come into effect next Monday, and Darling stated that it will cost the government 12.5 billion GBP. This was announced as part of the 2008 pre-budget report.
