Why did they release this (are they good people or evil people), or what is the impact of this release, or ... so what?

it's important because it's the FIRST time ever, that someone put modern processor architecture into the hand of the OpenSource community. it's an event ! Jacques Divol 12:58, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
