No satellite involved

According to http://hobbyspace.com/nucleus/ there was no test satellite on this particular flight, contrary to previous flight manifests. The dummy payload did fail to achieve orbit, however. The Tacsat mission is still available and is scheduled for the next launch. --Robert Horning 02:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

BTW, could we merge this with SpaceX Successfuly Launches from Kwajalein Atoll? There is no point in having two competing stories here. I don't care what the actual title is here, but this is duplication of effort for what is the same story. --Robert Horning 02:42, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, these stories are so concurrent that they really constitute the same event. However, is Hobbyspace a reliable source? They are not like other news-rooms. --SVTCobra 02:50, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
On this particular topic, I would put hobbyspace as reliable as a granite rock. This guy has followed the alt.space movement and is as connected to what is going on with all of the various companies, including SpaceX, as any professional journalist. And he is unbiased so far as that goes, as he is agnostic toward any particular rocket company. I know this isn't like other newsrooms, but in this case I would count what he has to say well over what MSNBC or CNN have to say about this topic. They would be going to hobbyspace to find out the gritty details and get additional contact within the industry. I'm not kidding here. Welcome to the blogosphere, where you have "reporters" on very narrow topics that do beat the pros. He usually beats traditional media on these topics by at least a week to often the mainstream media doesn't even report the stuff he does. --Robert Horning 03:15, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Apparently, there were a couple of experimental modules that NASA put into this launch, as well as a package from DARPA, but it was not the Tacsat satellite. NASASpaceflight.com has some more details about what was launched, together with some interviews of Elon Musk from a recent press conference and some "exclusive" interviews as well. --Robert Horning 03:22, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
