I'm lost - why is the next federal election "widely expected this spring" is the term of the Canada parliament up? I though canada last had elections at the start of last year? Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 09:26, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

There has been some talk in Canada that the Liberal party leader wants to have an election this spring, etc. It has been in the news for a while now so I thought I would add "widely expected this spring" to the article. Note, Parliament can call an election whenever the heck they want to, so It could very well be anytime between when they got elected to five years later.[5 years is maximum limit if I recall] Bawolff 06:26, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Same happens in NZ, (as that's part of the Westminster system of government) however in NZ its customary to serve the full term (3 years) before the PM advises the Govt-Gen to call in election. 5 years is a long time for a term of parliament, is that based on the British time? and is it customary to serve a full term?
