Talk:Saddam Hussein executed by hanging
Photographs and Video
editThese were supposedly made of the execution, and I imagine are fair use. I don't know how they will be released. If someone finds them, post them. --Kalmia 04:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Acorrding to CBC they will not b released to the public. --Flying Canuck 04:58, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- I was watching w:Anderson Cooper 360 and Anderson Cooper said that CNN will release the photographs and video once they are OKed. —FellowWikiNews (W) 05:04, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
There is a recording made on a mobile phone camera. I doubt whether the person who shot the footage is too keen on being identified... You can see it at: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=863ce7d4a3 it is interesting but disturbing. You can hear a lot of shouting and taunting in the background. Now we know why the "official" footage was released without sound. The BBC has carried reports with translations of some of this, but has not shown the actual execution part of the footage. There are shouts of "Go to Hell" and Saddam responds by telling them that they are not showing bravery. Obviously don't watch this if you will find it upsetting or offensive. - This is some sort of double discussion, as pictures are discussed below, too. Would like to reiterate that I am against putting such pictures in a serious news source. Have a Happy New Year full of hope and peace. LB 88.134.7.200 08:41, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Unconfirmed reports
editAre they still unconfirmed? --Kalmia 04:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- as far as I know its still unclear if the reports from Iraqi tv are correct, although from what MSNBC has said these tv channels are fairly reliable but i think its best to say unconfirmed for now.--Ryan524 04:08, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Merging
editArab Media Reports Say Saddam Has Been Executed StevenBao (talk) 04:10, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Can this page be merged with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Execution_of_Saddam_Hussein please?
capitalization
editThe title should be well capitalized. All of the other Wikinews articles aren't capitalized. It should be like this : Iraqi television reports say Saddam Hussein has been executed. ArmenG 04:31, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Lead Article?
editShouldn't this article be a lead article and on the front page as the lead article?—Ningbojoe 05:18, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
The two other convicts will be executed couple of days later
editAs far as I heard the two other convicts were not executed because they want more highlight of Saddam's execution, and the news about those two being dead was mistakenly reported by Iraqi television.
still breaking?
editis this breaking news anymore?
- it is, in that more details are coming out. probably by tonight (EST) it won't be anymore. Neevan 18:07, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- The French Wikinews article is much more complete, with a poll of reactions around the world. I gathered there these 2 additional sources (check'em out): http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-2524189_2,00.html (page 2, especially), and http://news.monstersandcritics.com/europe/news/article_1238225.php/Vatican_Saddam_execution_is_tragic_news 24.27.22.137 02:51, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Pictures
editWhat is our policy on using photos from his hanging? Certainly a picture of him in front of a noose would be in good order. Neevan 18:08, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
I disagree. Showing him in front of a noose would be as tasteless and inappropriate as with it around the neck. Just had the mobile phone movie of his executions on TV. This is not news but a very sad sort of entertainment. If you deem it important, add an external link to something showing that noose etc. 88.134.7.200 17:42, 31 December 2006 (UTC) LB
I know. It is our job to avoid life, and what happens when you do what Saddam did. We must avoid someone getting killed, even though it's a huge part of the whole stinkin' article, right?! Cheddar Cheesia 19:36, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
"unfair"
edit"Saddam's defence attorney alleged that the trial was --"
Why the quotes around "unfair"? You've just used the verb "allege", consequently your use of the quotes betrays your bias; i dunno, maybe it was unfair, somehow?

- perhaps his attorney used the work unfair so he is quoting it...
- Yeah, when we are repeating exactly what someone else said we typically put it in quotes. ★MESSEDROCKER★ 03:18, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes i know what quotes are for, thank you. But i also know that when you narrate that someone alleged/said something, you needn't quote it except if it's gonna be long (meaning, it is a sentence on its own, or a grammatical clause). As you propose, we should write such as this example: he said he "likes it". Now, come on, the reader's not that stupid. In this case, the writer is. 24.27.22.137 04:08, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

- I was quoting a word he said. Read a CNN article once in a while and you might notice that they do it. But thanks for your non-constructive critisizm. Try writing a story late at night while details devolop very quickly. Bye! Momodamonkey 02:38, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
