Talk:Quebec's Liberal premier Jean Charest wins third term
I CREATED this article for its newsworthiness:
- This is the first time since the 1950's, Maurice Duplessis and the Union Nationale that a party and/or leader has been elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first for the Liberals since the 1920's and Premier Taschereau. Please review the same to be published. Thanks.--Florentino Floro (talk) 09:51, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Publish problem
editThe reviewer forgot to sight the article after marking it with the publish template, so it didn't appear on the front page for several hours. (I fixed it now.) ♪TempoDiValse♪ 20:53, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, for helping a neophyte here, I had been here just 7 days since Dec. 3, and it is nice to stay here.--Florentino Floro (talk) 07:11, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
General comments
editThe way the intro is phrased seems slightly misleading to me. premier Jean Charest was elected for his third mandate seems to imply that he himself personally won the election as premier, as opposed to his party winning the most seats. Not sure if my comment makes sense or not, just an impression. Bawolff ☺☻
- I fully agree, that at first glance, the Wikinews reader would be focused on premier Jean Charest rather than upon the victory of the Liberals in the Quebec general election held on December 8, 2008. So which is greater, therefore? It is unlike the chicken and egg thing. Even in choosing a good title, I first did desire to make the Liberals in, than Charest. The problem or advantage, however, is, in the Wikinews search engine or archiving to find related news. Putting Charest on the spot rather than Liberals in the title and prefatory of info, would seem more practical, for reseach by editors on related news; and more than that, as lawyer and not journalist, if I write a legal brief, I do a lot on the Prefatory or intro so that the jurists will buy my pleading.
- I ponder, that Wikifying this by blue links will lead the reader, who will open the links, to the main thing which is the Liberal's victory rather than just Charest. More importantly, also, the entire news on Charest and Liberal's victory is somehow overshadowed perhaps by the probable claim of "Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois claims that the PQ is a big winner, for she greatly improved on the party's 2007 disastrous performance:" sweet revenge as consolation, so to speak, she had the numbers now and maybe later (last paragraph). At any rate, since all of us here whether engineers, lawyers or accredited reporters, as editors, for sure, do aim to write the news KIS (that's how we were taught in law school - "keep it short," let them read the links, so I put more links to avoid copy vio and at the same time, I allow the reader to read more, if he or she is not an ordinary street guy but professional, into this. Please feel free to edit and rephrase this news article, as I rely heavily on our collaboration, being new here, just a week (from December 3; I had been used to editing in Wikipedia English since July 2007 - Nov. 22 2008; it was easier there, and comparatively speaking, so tough here, due to style and publication). Thanks, and Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 07:11, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- I realize that technically it was the Liberals that won re-election, and that Charest is now premier only because the re-elected Liberals say he is. But in practise things are quite different. In practise it is the party leader (Charest in this case) who drives the election/not-election of the other members of his/her party. So in every way that matters this election was about whether or not Charest would be re-elected, not about whether the Liberals would be re-elected. (That is esspecially the case since Charest himself is actually a Conservative; he is with the Liberal party only as a matter of personal convenience.) Gopher65talk 13:40, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
