Talk:Protesters arrested at climate change rally

Latest comment: 14 years ago by Lasse Havelund in topic Not arrested - detained

"The Copenhagen Summit will attract representatives of nearly 190 nations" (emphasis added) - Uh, they're already there, conference is in progress. And, who is Helen Baxendale? Are all the people you name in Copenhagen and taking part in these protests? --Brian McNeil / talk 22:56, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

w:Helen Baxendale is a English actress, and I'll correct the error in tense. Cocoaguy (talk) 23:10, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

More points edit

  • Who says over 100,000? Police and protest organisers generally have wildly differing estimates. --Brian McNeil / talk 23:20, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • I partially fixed the {{QuoteLeft}} (See this diff). The text still needs to appear in the main body of the article in some sort of context. I also note the Guardian article specifies tens of thousands, not the hundred-K+ the Wikinews article asserts. That would be enough to fail on Verifiability because your article doesn't match a source, or otherwise report where varying figures are coming from. --Brian McNeil / talk 23:32, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yeah you are right, the number I got was from this quote from the BBC article "Danish police estimate that some 30,000 people joined the march while organisers put the number at 100,000." I guess i just picked up the 100,000. I think the safe number is tens of thousands, Cocoaguy (talk) 01:29, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Actually, police are known to under-estimate, protesters overestimate. Usually if you can get both, "Protest organisers claimed attendance was as high as 100,000 a stark contrast to the 30,000 figure supplied to the press by the city's police". The Guardian's vague "tens of thousands" covers 20,000-99,999, so is even more vague. --Brian McNeil / talk 13:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not arrested - detained edit

Only about 3 or 4 were arrested. The rest were detained, and subsequently let go without being charged. Lasse Havelund (p) (t) 15:45, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
