job of the libellee

The Jan 16 RSF article says that the libellee was a policeman, but it looks like a mistranslation from "fonctionnaire" from French from "funkcjonariusz" in Polish. In both (fr) and (pl), "functionary" can mean any civil servant/public servant, but in French, it's often taken to mean one particular sort of civil servant: a police officer - you have to decide from context. IMHO RSF was just a little slack in double-checking all the details.

The bezcenzury article says "naczelnika wydziału promocji" which is something like "leader of the promotion section" - my guess is this is "promotion" in the sense of "advertising the town as great to visit and spend złotys or even better, euros". (Whether this means he had a conflict of interest, well, the residents of Police have probably already made up their minds.)

BTW, i didn't put the name of the libellee, though it is available in the source articles if people feel that it should be in the article. Boud 01:02, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
