Talk:Opera Internet browser goes ad-free

See w:free software if you don't know what free means in terms of software. It normally means free as in speech, not free as in beer. If the meaning is not clear, then make it clear.

AFAIK no version of Opera is free software. Certainly, the version linked from the article has a license.txt which clearly shows that it is non-free. Boud 21:01, 20 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Closed Source is an even better term here. User:urger 7:24PM EST, 9-20-2005

True! When i checked the opera status, i only read enough to be convinced it was non-free and to quote the relevant text, and although i sort of half-noticed the bit about not being allowed to derive the source code, i didn't realise that the tar.gz really only contained the binary + a few wrappers and auxiliary files. i guessed i assumed (wrongly) that since it was a tar.gz it should contain source code! What search product? edit

Opera has no search product, at most it has revenue sharing agreements with search engines it points its users to.
