All of the article except for the bit about one person dying is based on what I saw during the storms while on holiday in Mallorca. In paticular, the things about boats and similar stuff are based on what I saw in Port D' Andrax. Dead for Trying to Save a Rowing Boat

the Frenchman killed did not own a yacht: He owned a 3.5+ mtrs open two-pointed rowing boat. You can see the boat in the background of this picture (a still from Canal4 footing), I have about the same on my mobile: http://ohlmer.es/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hobre_muerto_sant_elm.jpg

The real news in this case is the naked man in the photo, a local Police Officer that lives right in front of the coast who jumped into the water at 3 mtr waves w/o thinking twice and risking his life in an attempt to save the Frenchman.
