Talk:North Korea test-fires missiles

Multiple missles? edit

Is there a source that states there have been more than three missles? All the sources listed seem to only indicate three? R2b2 23:06, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

CNN TV in the United States states that a U.S. State Department source confirms six launches, which I've added to a table in the article. Missing information (besides the North Korea times) was information that was omitted by CNN during a report from the White House. Baricom 23:16, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
CNN (US) updated to five just recently.

NPOV edit

Does it make sense to reference the nuclear weapons testing our side does in the article?[1] [2]Neutralizer 02:56, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I put a little in at the end for NPOV purposes. Neutralizer 03:32, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps I am looking at it weirdly but to me it's as if people in a neighborhood were making a big deal about 1 guy on his porch brandishing a knife while the guy across the street has an uzi in each hand pointing at the guy with the knife. It's fine to report the brandishing of the knife but the uzis should at least be mentioned in a NPOV article; in my way of thinking
I suggest that we insert a little background for NPOV purposes. Just because the rest of western media embraces a semi-hysterical tone to the event doesn't mean we need to and I think a bit of perspective might be called for. However, I do not know whether there are many(any)other editors who feel the way I do or not? In the meantime, I will reinclude the reference which was removed with no talk page discussion but feel free to revert and please explain the reasoning here. Neutralizer 16:55, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't feel that it is of any importance to this news story. We don't even know if North Korea got the ability to perform a nuclear strike, neverless keeping long-distance missiles in the air. So I don't think we need any perspective on this, it just comes out looking like muscleflexing because NK got a poor military standard in comparison. --Jambalaya 17:53, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

image edit

Is it required to upload the image to the Wikinews project in order to use it here? --Jambalaya 17:54, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

what japan? what s. korea? edit

there's plenty of mention of security implications of the launch for the US, but not for japan and south korea. needs to be fixed. Doldrums 10:20, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

this line was removed when i overwrote an edit conflict.

Junichiro Koizumi, the Japanese Prime Minister, told reporters he had information that Pyongyang had launched a seventh missile.

as i've added the japanese reactions, i think this line is not needed. mick, if u feel otherwise, can u just add it back. Doldrums 10:40, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Australian Foreign minister quote edit

Australian foreign minister Alexander said Wednesday that more missiles might be launched "in the next day or two".[3]

Two points here:

1. The Australian Foreign Minister's name is Alexander Downer

2. The cited source does not mention this quote.

I'm commenting this sentence out until it can be sourced correctly. --Jobrahms 10:34, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
