Talk:London Tube bombs went 'bang bang bang, very close together'

Latest comment: 19 years ago by Dan100

These are the notes I took while watching the latest Met police and TfL press conference. Usefully, the BBC are looping the whole thing on a digital channel, so I had the chance to check my notes. There's a lot more here than I've used in this article - I intend to write at least one or two more. You can read a bit from the conference here. Dan100 (Talk) 9 July 2005 16:48 (UTC)

I've found another source, with more info than was given at the press conference - will add to article. Dan100 (Talk) 08:14, 10 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

'Sandy': forensic at Edgware road and Ald east, roof of bus removed, bus in due course, for forensic exam, area closed off while finger tip search for some time to come

search halted overnight after increasingly difficult conditions, resumed this am, hot dusty, great challenge. slow, methodical meticulous forensic teams alongside preserving evidence

DAC Brian Paddick: 120,000 calls to cas bureau family liason stratergy in place, FLOs from across country working together in London and across country 24hr reception centre for peeps tracing missing opening this pm. Address to be confirmed in central London, fully equipped all comms staffed by police FLOs, Red Cross sally army WRVS Victim Support vol working with statatory agencies, for loved ones outstanding.

If miss pers found, call cas bearu back to confirm case closed

0851 calls about trapped person 1st sent to Edgeware Rd, 0917 first call about explosions, series of calls over time to all services, now clarifying techical info confirm bombs going off very close together

Tim O'Toole MD of TfL Control software and power systems corroborrate - high confidence

Aldgate train on circle line exploded seconds ahead of others train 204, all track circuits indicate power system tripped out (probably blast)

Edgware road, train 216, leaving Baker Street to Edgeware Road, leaves ED, opposite '000' number not picked up from track, but was affected by blast - other train affected by blast, made it look like derailment,

No pics from Piccadilly but exact same moment tunnel telephone wires cut by blast, this cut out traction current system.

Questions:

two possibilites - synched watches, simul dets at same time, or timing devices co-ordinated, doesn't take us much forwards, blasts within 50s of each other, more likely timer but not ruling out either.

how many bodies in carriages? don't know how many left, force of blast big makes it very difficult

how many missing? rescue workers extremely hot dusty dangerous into tonight

mis per: thousands of calls, sifting with known dead

50s within each other at 0850am stopped trains code amber moved trains to platform at 0915 evac few mins code red after bus heard about in control room power out, edgware road derailment, bang at aldgate, 22Kv - something up? calls coming in from all over - RS, ER, other trains involved - code Amber - later code red. very very grave decision to stop system - not taken lightly - more trains than platforms. Proud of decisions that day. Aldgate incident call 0851, edgware road person under train, 0917 first confirm of bomb at ER, em servs on site by then.

bus exploded at 0947, every possibilty being considered about late timing

anti-terror police knew about simulatinouseness

patient at Royal London - bomber? "complete speculation", will make sure of evidential value before moving on to next line of enquiry

1min gap between first event and first call to police - about someone under train at ER, aldagate possible explosions

could lives have been saved if better comms? No.

BBC interviewee saw agitated man with bag - possibility of bomb man died on bus, but possibility of left bomb, nothing ruled in our out. Device in a bag, not strapped to person

formal ID of dead taking place, no names released today, will be in due course, coroner has call over release of names

Circle line investigation - carriages in situ at all locations, meticulous examine, RS scene is about body recovery too.

Any trace of timing devices? Long painstaking process, remote control manual timing device will be in millions of pieces. Can't tell what it was yet, may be possible

bus cctv - working? bus being examined, can't comment. Underground has camaera. Traffic cams will have seen bus

tunnel damage? RS not significant damage - tunnel is fine

exact order - Aldgate, Edware, Piccadilly - 'bang bang bang very close together'

CCTV round city - close contact with all cctv operators public+commercial pictures retrieved well rehearsed well planned seizing everything useful done

focus of team from madrid - not sure what they're engaged with, but not turn down any offer of assistance from anyone

type of explosives? high explosives all we're saying not homemade whether mil, commerical, plastic, don't want to say at this stage. Crucial info might be useful for investigations - won't give out

how many bodies ID'd? don't have info, coroner allowing will find out

abu hash al-maryter - no arrests yet, all claims will be looked at

madrid - second attack soon after - any assupmtion of anouther attack? remain prepared for any eventuality, all necessary precautions for safety, high vis and under covers, will LU passengers be suspicious - people are calling in. Impatient to end, intolerable to leave packages lying around

timer in debris of bus - won't confirm or deny

Irish guardia - don't know of any offer

all bodies recovered by sunday evening - througout today may well go into 2mw, extrememly difficult, keep stoping for safety reasons, high temps, ventilating

detail of conditions below KC how many men - tunnel extrememly tight much nearer KC but access from RS only, extrememly hot, hostile, blast damage considerable, difficult to work in there, rescuers overcame this, but later regrouped after living retrieved, all sorts of techniques lots of experienced people working there

any intel on more attacks - other than 2 existing no more claims, no specific intel on future attacks

what eqpt in pica tunnel - cutting eqpt, tools to prise fabric of train open

END
