Talk:Iran election going to run-off, challenger alleges fraud

for archival purposes edit

i'm not sure if this is wikolitically correct (probably this should go to wikisource? feel free to shift it there, i haven't contributed there yet...), but just in case the iranian news agency has unexpected server problems, it's probably useful to have a copy of the most important bits of the two pages cited: http://www.irna.ir/en/news/view/menu-234/0506180698161043.htm

Out of a total of 26,484,370 votes counted throughout the country by 15:45 hours Saturday, Rafsanjani and Karroubi have gained the highest number of votes.
The following table shows the latest vote count announced by the elections headquarters of the Interior Ministry Saturday afternoon:
1. Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani 5,474,885
2. Mehdi Karroubi 4,924,731
3. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad 4,810,079
4. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf 3,766,444
5. Mostafa Moin 3,635,990
6. Ali Larijani 1,609,029

Based on unofficial figures, announced by the Elections Headquarters at Interior Ministry, out of about 26,850,000 votes counted throughout the country thus far on Saturday, Rafsanjani and Ahmadinejad have gained the highest number of votes.
This is newsworthy. I don't see a problem with posting it to the actual article. NGerda 02:03, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)
The following table shows the latest vote count announced by the elections headquarters of the Interior Ministry Saturday afternoon:
1. Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani 6,010,829
2. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad 5,555,458
3. Mehdi Karroubi 5,039,431
4. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf 4,009,620
5. Mostafa Moin 3,949,240
6. Ali Larijani 1,715,190
7. Mohsen Mehralizadeh 1,269,793

Someone should probably number crunch these, but from a rough estimate it could just be an error in the total in the 2nd case, e.g. 27,850,000 instead of 26,850,000. Boud 02:00, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia Article edit

Iranian presidential election, 2005 It's way better than we happy few could hope to accomplish here. I lifted that table from them. I'm going to ask some of the Wikipedia contributors if they'll volunteer to help out with the news here until after the run-off next week. And if they can get us some new photos --- I'm so sick of seeing that Majlis photo in every single article! I guarantee you someone could create an article entitled "New Persian restaurant opens in Manhattan" and that picture would find its way into it. We really need to expand our stock of file photos ;)
