Wow, that headline "Imperfect immune systems help avoid autoimmune disease" just reeks of obviousness. But the actual study has a slightly different point - that it's supposed to be that way. In this case, and in many cases where I might post stories in the future, I read original scientific articles and write the lay interpretation of them. I sometimes contact the researchers, but not in most cases. So, what sort of notes would you like to see? (sorry, I am new at this) It is original reporting because I don't base it on what others have written about the paper, but on the paper itself. My goal is to find interesting science stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.

For example, I recently read a story in a physics journal (Physical Review E) about a way to analyze paintings. It shows that a numerical technique common in physics can distinguish between genres and artists, and may even lead to a a new tool for detecting forgeries. I will write it up, probably without talking directly to the researchers (afterall, they are supposed to include all relevant information in their paper). I am happy to include notes. What should these notes look like? Most supporting information would be included in the hyperlinks in the text or in links to related stories. --BuzzSkyline 20:41, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
